Swim Graduation

The Saturday after Kendall was born, Will graduated from his first swim class!  I stayed home with Kendall, so I missed it.  Such a bummer.  For each class level they have 12 skills they have to master and he mastered his first twelve.  He was the first in his class to do it.  He loves to swim and loves the water!  I am so pleased he has taken so well to it.  They are so cute at the swim school when they make these goals.  The kids get to ring a bell and get ribbons for their achievement.  The owner makes a big announcement to everyone there.  He was so proud and you can see it on his face.  He keeps telling us he graduated.  So funny!  Love this precious boy!002 (3) 003 (3) 005 (2)

Big Brother

It has been so fun and such a blessing to watch Will become a big brother.  We all know Will can be pretty intense at times and I had no idea how he would do with her.  We talked a lot about him becoming a big brother and what an important job that was.  He really seemed like he was getting it and he was really excited about having a baby sister.  He has indeed become the best big brother.  I am so pleased at how well he has done and how sweet he is with her.  He loves her so much!  He’s been nothing but gentle and caring with her.  When she makes so much as a peep, he is right there saying, “Its ok Kendall.”  It really is heart warming.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 220I was really worried about how he would handle some of his favorite people giving attention to Kendall.  There have been a few minor moments where he wanted someone to put the baby down and a time or two that he had to have the person’s attention that happened to have Kendall – but there haven’t been too many. Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 223 I think the age gap has been perfect.  Will has really matured in the last month or so.  He is communicating as such a great level and his tantrums have really slowed down.  Even when he has his “moments” they are so much more short lived than there were several months back.  He is definitely hitting that three year old, push the boundaries phase, but he seems to be handling his emotions better these days.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 227 I pray that Will and Kendall truly love each other and become friends as they grow up.  I know they will fight like every other set of siblings in America do – but I hope that we can foster an environment that they always stay close.  Kevin and I both are very close to our siblings and want the same for them.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 229

Kendall’s Birth Story

I wrote Will’s story down, so I wanted to do the same for Kendall’s.  Here it is!

Kendall’s entire pregnancy was pretty low key.  Other than the first few months when I was extremely nauseous, the rest went very smoothly.  I never showed any problems and everything was smooth sailing.  I never really swelled much with Kendall like I did with Will.  I wore my wedding rings the entire time – I was excited about that.  :)

Towards the end of my pregnancy, my doctor let me know that she was going to be out of town June 30th – July 9th.  I was due July 8th.  Bummer.  She predicted that I would go full-term like I did with Will.  So she had me go see one of the doctors that would be on call if I did deliver while she was out.  I met him and really loved him.  She had me do several sonograms towards the end of my pregnancy to make sure everything looked good and to see if there was any reason to induce.  She said she would induce me on June 29th the day before she left if I wanted her to.  Well – that was my nephew Miles’ first birthday and I just wasn’t sure I wanted to do that.  Will was not a big baby, so I feared inducing and having a really small baby.  It seemed unnecessary since there was absolutely no telling reason to induce.  She then asked – ok what if you are still pregnant when I get back?  Do you want to induce?  At this point I say yes.  If I am still pregnant on July 10th – heck yes.  Get the kid out.  She’ll have been in long enough!

She goes out of town and I go in a week before my due date to see the nurse just to have my urine/blood pressure/heart beat checked.  She did the regular stuff and then she was checking Kendall’s heart beat.  It seems to be taking awhile and finally she says – I think I want you to see the on-call doctor.  The heartbeat seems too slow.  What?!?  Everything has been perfect to this point and now we are one week away from my due date and now something is wrong?  She says – don’t worry, I am just a nurse and I would rather be safe than sorry.  Ha.  Don’t worry.  Really?  What 39 week pregnant woman with raging hormones isn’t going to worry when the nurse says the heartbeat is too slow??  Ugh.  So she leaves me in there and I of course start crying.  She had gone to call the other office and it was taking forever.  I call Kevin crying and he is attempting to calm me down.  Long story short the other doctor sends me up to the specialist for a sonogram (because the regular stenographer is also out of town) at 1:30.  It was like 11 at this point – so I have time to kill.  Kevin leaves work and we go have lunch.  Then we go to the appointment.  To avoid drawing this out – the specialist says (and I quote) “You are too healthy to be here.  I am sorry they upset you.”  Yep – nothing at all was wrong, the nurse just didn’t know what she was doing!  Whew.  While I was relieved to hear that, I was more than ready to get her out.  It just seemed safer at that point!

Fast forward to Sunday – my due date, July 8th.  I didn’t sleep at all Saturday night for some reason and everyone at my house woke up grumpy.  Not sure why.  We didn’t go to church (I just couldn’t go and have everyone say – you’re still pregnant??) and we went to lunch to get out of the house.  We all 3 came back and took marathon naps.  We needed them.  I blogged that afternoon about still being pregnant – boo.  It looked like I would be inducing Tuesday morning.  If I did, I would have to go in Monday night – I wasn’t real excited about this, but I was ready to have the baby. I put Will to bed around 8:30.  Kevin was in the office working and I was sitting on the couch and at about 9pm, I felt my first contraction.  Could it be?  I was rather pumped.  I waited a bit before saying anything to Kevin to make sure there were more.  And there were.  But – really they were pretty far apart and not consistent.  I went ahead and told Kevin I was having contractions and thought we should see if his sister, Kayse, would come over to stay the night in case we did need to leave in the middle of the  night.  I didn’t want to drag Will out of bed.  So Kayse came over and hung out.  Around 11 I decided to call my mom.  I hated to wake her but figured she’s be mad if I didn’t.  I called her and she hopped in the shower.  She called me after and I told her to come on over.  She was awake, so we could have a contraction party!  So me, Kayse, and mom sat and watched tv and I timed my contractions.  I had also showered by this point and Kevin had told his work he wouldn’t be in the next morning.

Around 2:30, we decided to head to the hospital.  The contractions were getting stronger and more consistent.  I definitely wanted to get there in time to get the epidural much earlier in the process than I did with Will. I am glad we went when we did.  We got checked in around 3am and went to triage.  I got undressed and they monitored my contractions for awhile.  I waited for quite awhile for the nurse to be available to check me.  My contractions were very consistent – only 3-4 min apart at that point.  However, when she checked me I was only dilated to a 3.  I told her how quickly things went with my first one and she went ahead and called the on-call doctor since my contractions were so close.  They wheeled me to my delivery room and started getting all the paperwork, etc. done.  The on-call doctor came in and he was so nice.  He got them to get the anesthesiologist in there.  At this point the contractions were pretty intense and I was more than ready for the drugs.  I got the epidural – which was much more painful than I had remembered with Will.  I think I was in such intense pain with Will and such intense labor that the epi pain didn’t matter.  Anyway, I got the drugs and a few minutes later I was oblivious to the contractions.  Bliss.  The doctor said it was good I got them when I did because the contractions really picked up.

I was thinking I would be progressing quickly but for some reason things really slowed down.  The next time they checked me they said I was at a 3.5.  Oh wow – a whole 1/2 centimeter progress.  So I rested for awhile.  She said let’s see how things go and we’ll see if we need to add pitocin.  I was able to nap a bit.  Our parents arrived at the hospital as they were too ancy waiting at home.  The nurse checked me at 7am and I was dilated to a 6.  Now we were making progress.  She said she would check me again at 8am.  Closer to 8, I thought my water might have broken.  I was fairly numb, so I wasn’t sure what was going on down there.  I had to lay on my right side and the epidural had kind of heavily numbed my right side and I was starting to feel things on my left.  I couldn’t lay on my left side because Kendall didn’t like that apparently.  They increased my dosage a bit and it wasn’t too unpleasant.

A little after 8am, the nurse checks me.  Mom and Daneille were in the room at the time and I guess Kevin had dozed off in the chair.  The nurse took one look and said – whoa – there she is!  It is go time!  Let me get the doctor!  Whoo hoo!  I was ready to meet her!  I say something to Kevin and he doesn’t respond.  Mom and Daneille wake him up and my mom tells him she’s ready to go.  He looks at Daneille and says – is she kidding?  Ha.  Mom and Kevin tease each other quite a lot.  This was no joke though!

The doctor comes in and gets dressed and very quickly I start pushing.  Three pushes and she comes right out!  She came out so much easier than Will did, thankfully.  At 8:26am – we met our little girl.  Our daughter.  She was perfect.  She looked like a girl.  So sweet – so amazing.

The whole experience was so much easier than Will’s delivery.  Being our 2nd time, things progressing a little slower, better nurses, her not getting stuck – it all added up to a very smooth delivery. It also meant an easier recovery.  I was up and about very quickly that day (once I got the feeling back in my legs).

I think it is a little funny how similar Will and Kendall were, though.  I clearly can perfectly cook a baby.  Will was born the day before his due date and I went into labor on Kendall’s due date (officially born the day after). Will weighed 7 lbs 2 oz, Kendall 7 lbs 3 oz.  Will was born at 8:50am, Kendall was born at 8:26am.  However, their temperaments seem very different.  Kendall already seems a lot more laid back than Will.  We’ll see if that sticks.

We had lots of family at the hospital, which was so special.  We were so proud to introduce her to the world.  Will was such a good big brother and while he was a little over-whelmed, he did so much better than I expected.  And that’s how we met our Kendall Elizabeth!

Kendall Elizabeth Arrives!

Well, it is about time that I blogged about this amazing little blessing that arrived right on time!  I love that my last post was on my due date (Sunday, July 8th) and exactly 3 hours before my contractions started!  There was I sitting in my room complaining that it was my due date and I was still pregnant.  Little did I know that 3 hours later my contractions would begin and we would be so close to meeting our sweet precious girl.  I’ll blog separately exactly how it all went down but let’s just say it was much, much calmer than Will’s story.  Here is a picture of me – a full and exact 40 weeks pregnant right before we headed out the door to the hospital.
017 The labor progressed a good bit slower than Will’s did and at 8:26 am Monday morning July 9th, this beautiful little girl made her debut!  You can see below the monitor says she weighed 7lbs 3 oz (exactly 1 oz more than Will weighed) and she was 19.75 inches long.  She was perfect!!Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 035We were immediately in love with her.  She just looked so sweet and so girlie.  So funny how different she seemed than Will.  She has these perfect red lips and the softest cheeks.  Amazing. Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 049 A very proud daddy!Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 054 Here is a very proud Mimi who finally got her first granddaughter on the 4th try!Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 058 Mimi and AllyKendall's Birth 2012-07-09 061 Ally and her first granddaughter as well on her 3rd try!Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 066 G.J. the proud grandpa and KendallKendall's Birth 2012-07-09 070 I think it is so fun that our family is all so close and could all be there right after she was born.  My brothers got there just in time to meet her.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 071 Uncle DustinKendall's Birth 2012-07-09 077 Uncle JKendall's Birth 2012-07-09 085 Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 087Daneille meeting Miss Kendall Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 093 After we headed upstairs, we got to see Will!  Kayse had come over Sunday night when I started having contractions and stayed over at the house so Will could get a good night’s sleep – thank you Kayse!  He woke up and she told him we were at the hospital.  They came up and here is our first picture of our family of 4!  It is the only one we have so far.  I look a little crazy because Kendall is getting some skin to skin time to warm her up after her bath.  He was so sweet and Tricia got some pictures of him seeing her when they were cleaning her up in the nursery.  I’ll post those as soon as I get them.003 (2) Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 162 Lindsey came up to see her right after workKendall's Birth 2012-07-09 103 Their birthdays are close together, so I think they are planning tea parties.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 106 Uncle Ben & Aunt WandaKendall's Birth 2012-07-09 115 Dylan was just the sweetest cousin ever.  He made this artwork for Kendall.  He was so cute and so proud.  He melted my heart.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 117 Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 121 Aunt Kayse visits after work with her first niece.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 123 Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 132 My good friend Lori came by, tooKendall's Birth 2012-07-09 133 A quick pic of the parents with our daughter (so hard getting used to saying daughter/her/she – so funny).Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 136 Our sweet friends Chris & Macy came by.  Their son Jack is in Will’s class at school.  They also have a baby boy, Tucker, who is about 3 weeks older than Kendall.  So it will be fun to have both our kiddos in classes together.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 139 I will blog more about this later, but Will has been the sweetest big brother.  He has blown away my expectations.  I really can’t believe how well he has done with her.Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 141  Mimi029And we headed home on Wed around 1pm.  We were so ready to get out of the hospital!Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 196 Home sweet home!  Tricia left us this fun Welcome Home Kendall sign!  Somehow I have no pics of Tricia – am hoping she has some on her camera.  She was there!  Kayse left us some fun decorations inside.  So happy to be home and settled!Kendall's Birth 2012-07-09 204

Due Date

Well - today is my official due date and no signs of labor. I have to admit I am pretty bummed. I was really hoping she would be here by now. If I felt better I would try to enjoy the extra time off but I am having trouble sleeping. And I am just really uncomfortable at this point. Looks like we might be inducing possibly on Tuesday. I am not a big fan of inductions but I also can't fathom going any longer. We are in such limbo right now. Poor Will is up and down. He knows things are off and is a handful and a half some days. Other times he is really sweet and really clingy with me. I think we are all just ready to get to a new normal. We've talked so much about it to Will to try and prepare him that I think he is also just ready for things to get moving. Here's a sweet picture of him practicing his baby skills on Tigger. Tigger is wearing a diaper and has a paci in his mouth. Sweet big brother in training!

Reading

We love that Will now loves to read. We read to him every night and after I finish a book he always wants to read it himself. I came in his room the other day and he had pulled off a whole shelf full of books. I asked him what he was doing and said, "I'm reading.". Ha! Another day he decided to bring a whole bunch into our tub while I was getting ready for the same reason. Funny kid!

Miles Man!

This is a little late, but recently our sweet nephew Miles had his 1st birthday! His actual birthday was June 29th. There was a time that we worried he and Kendall could share a birthday but that was no worry! She won't come out!!

Tricia threw the cutest party for Miles with a little squirt theme. Lots of whales and no detail forgotten. We love this happy little guy and loved celebrating him! I can't believe he's been in our lives for a year! Here are a few pics of the cutie at his party. Love you sweet boy!
